The feast day of Saints Philip and James, Apostles, is on May 3rd. This day commemorates the lives and martyrdom of two of the twelve apostles chosen by Jesus.
St. Philip was one of the first apostles to be called by Jesus and is known for his preaching and evangelizing in Phrygia and Greece. He is also famously known for his encounter with the Ethiopian eunuch, which is recorded in the Acts of the Apostles.
St. James, also called James the Less or James the Just, was a cousin of Jesus and the first bishop of Jerusalem. He played an important role in the early Christian Church and was known for his piety and devotion to prayer.
Both apostles were martyred for their faith. St. Philip was crucified upside down, while St. James was stoned to death. The Church honors them together on May 3rd, acknowledging their important contributions to the spread of the Gospel and their ultimate sacrifice for Christ.
